Having now listened to the latest season it’s clear this show is still evolving and retains its capacity to surprise and entertain. Emily Inkpen’s deliciously detailed character study of villainy in all its forms remains a delight. In Season Three everyone has an agenda, and the actions of the past come back to haunt several characters.
Some of the changes from earlier seasons include each episode introduction being delivered by a different character (although please note I remain very much Team Auto). In a similar way to the interlude episodes, this gives Inkpen a chance to drive the story forward and explore the inner nature and motivations of the wider cast of characters, providing the listener with another perspective on them and the wider world they inhabit.
Producer Chris Gregory also deserves huge acclaim for the success of this show. The sound production is, once again, top notch
The professional acting cast is, as ever, uniformly excellent but I did want to highlight Eleni Aristeidou’s performance, as she had some big shoes to fill in taking over the role of Dr Osa Srivastava. I thought she was immediately believable as that character and she also establishes great chemistry from the off with Lewie Watson as Dr Devek Za, who continues to fascinate with his warped and utterly self-absorbed view of the world. I’m looking forward to more from both of them in Season Four and seeing how this new acting partnership develops.
Season Three is certainly action-packed and Inkpen’s story takes several unexpected twists and turns. Producer Chris Gregory also deserves huge acclaim for the success of this show. The sound production is, once again, top notch and really adds depth to every episode. There’s an impression of a wider world existing beyond the main actors delivering their lines, and the soundscape provides a real sense of grit and realism during the action sequences.
Overall, Season Three delivered for me on every level. This is a top notch, intelligent sci-fi show which perfectly blends its brilliant characters with an exciting storyline that keeps you guessing to the end. Bring on Season Four!
