Spotlight Indie began in September 2024 with our first indie author event. Organised by just two people in three months – what can we say? It seemed like a great idea at the time – and it turns out, it really was. While our first event connected authors, readers and creatives, we quickly realised something even more special was happening.

In a world where isolation can feel overwhelming, the genuine warmth and sense of community that emerged from people coming together and supporting each other through their shared love of storytelling was truly inspiring. The event was a success, and from that, Spotlight Indie was born. Since then, we’ve evolved into a tight-knit team with a growing programme of online and in-real-life events. In 2026, our second live event took place at The Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury – and we began our partnership with Stagedoor Studios.

In 2027 and beyond, we’re growing even further.

Bring on the next chapter

Our mission is to make creative writing and independent publishing more accessible. Whether you’re a debut author, a hobbyist writer, a seasoned indie, or just dipping your toe into the magical waters of writing craft, this is a place where you’ll feel welcome, supported and encouraged. We don’t promise fame or success. What we do promise is a place to learn, grow, and feel part of a creative community.

Our commitment is to keep the cost of our events as low as possible (while still delivering a great experience), ensuring everyone in our community has the opportunity to become the best creative they can be. Wherever possible, we’ll cover as many event costs as we can through sponsorship and other funding, helping to keep ticket prices affordable.

We’re here for the beginners, the over-thinkers, and the imposter syndrome wrestlers. We’re writers, artists, performers, and creators – but above all else, we’re a happy bunch of storytelling nerds on a quest to put a little more creativity and positivity into the world.
